BMW coding — hidden features
Coding switches on features that already exist in the car's software but were left disabled at the factory. It is not remapping: it does not touch engine calibration, it changes how control units behave.
What can be done
It depends on your car's hardware and software version; we tell you up front what is actually possible on yours.
iDrive interface
Menu options, startup animation and interface customisation.
Gearbox character
Shift firmness and response settings, and how they follow drive modes.
Comfort features
Mirror folding, locking behaviour, welcome lights, remote window and sunroof operation.
Cluster warnings
Tidying up unnecessary warnings and reminders.
Custom requests
If what you want is not listed, ask — we will check whether it is possible.
Is coding safe and reversible?
Coding changes the configuration data of the relevant control unit. The existing settings are read and stored before any change, and can be restored exactly if you want them back.
There are limits. A feature cannot be enabled if the car does not physically have the hardware for it — a display mode an unsupported screen cannot render will not appear because of coding. So once we have your request we check your car's build list and give you a realistic answer.
Coding is also done remotely, through the same ENET/WiFi adapter and app. The process works on the same principle as remote flashing.
Coding questions
Is coding the same as remapping?
No. Remapping changes engine calibration and affects power; coding changes the configuration and behaviour of control units and does not affect power.
Will a dealer service undo my coding?
A software update can return some settings to factory values. It can simply be reapplied.
Does coding affect my warranty?
Coding changes a setting that is within factory scope. If it is linked to a fault it could become a discussion point; being fully reversible reduces that risk.
Which features can be enabled on my car?
