iDrive 7 vs 8 vs 8.5: which features can be coded?
How to tell BMW iDrive 7, 8 and 8.5 apart, which models have them and which hidden features can be coded on each generation.
Why it matters
BMW feature coding is prepared per iDrive generation. The same model name (e.g. 320i) came with different iDrive software in different production periods, so package content and price depend on the generation. Knowing your iDrive generation is the first step to choosing the right package.
How to identify your iDrive generation
iDrive 7 (ID7): separate instrument cluster and central display; the home screen uses horizontal tiles. iDrive 8 (ID8): the cluster and central display are combined behind one curved glass panel (Curved Display) with touch-first menus. iDrive 8.5: also the curved display, but with vertical QuickSelect icons on the left of the home screen.

Displaying speeds above 261 km/h on the cluster is a separate service.

Frequently asked questions
Can the iDrive 8.5 package be applied to an iDrive 8 car?
No; packages are generation-specific. If your car has been updated to iDrive 8.5 at a dealer, the 8.5 package may apply; we check this with your VIN and software version.
Does coding change engine software?
No. Feature coding changes vehicle and infotainment settings; it does not touch engine power. For engine software see MOSTUNED Flash packages.
Can coding be done remotely?
Feature packages can be applied with assisted remote service by appointment. M Track View, which requires module installation, is only done at our Ataşehir, Istanbul workshop.
