BMW ENET cable and WiFi-ENET adapter guide

Which ENET cable or WiFi-ENET adapter do you need for MOSTUNED? How it connects to your iPhone, why Bluetooth OBD does not work and what to watch for.

What is ENET?

F- and G-series BMWs communicate for diagnostics and software over Ethernet through the OBD socket. That link is called ENET. Flashing engine software, reading fault codes and logging live data all require connecting to it.

The MOSTUNED app runs on iPhone and connects to the car in two ways: a wired ENET cable or a WiFi-ENET adapter. Both do the same job; the difference is how they connect.

Two options: wired and WiFi

Which adapters do not work?

The most common mistake is buying a cheap Bluetooth OBD (ELM327) adapter. Those do basic diagnostics over the car’s CAN bus; they do not speak Ethernet (ENET). MOSTUNED uses the Ethernet link for flashing and logging, so it does not work with them.

When buying, look for “ENET”, “BMW F/G series” or “DoIP” in the description. It is the same ENET cable used for BMW coding on a laptop (E-Sys), so if you already own one you do not need another.

First connection, step by step

  1. 1 Install MOSTUNED on your iPhone through TestFlight.
  2. 2 Plug the ENET cable or WiFi-ENET adapter into the car’s OBD socket.
  3. 3 For wired, connect the Ethernet adapter to the iPhone; for WiFi, join the adapter’s network.
  4. 4 Start the connection in the app; the car is found within seconds and the VIN and ECU details are read.
  5. 5 Try fault reading, Unlock Check and Logger for free; choose your package for Flash.

Frequently asked questions

Will a Bluetooth OBD adapter work?

No. ELM327-type Bluetooth adapters do not provide an Ethernet (ENET) link. You need an ENET cable or a WiFi-ENET adapter.

Wired or WiFi for flashing?

Both work. Because the link must not drop while writing, wired is the safer choice. Either way, check the car’s battery and follow the preparation steps in the app.

What about older iPhones with a Lightning port?

On iPhones without USB-C we recommend a WiFi-ENET adapter, which connects without plugging anything into the phone.

Does it work on Android?

MOSTUNED is currently iPhone (iOS) only. Any Android plans will be announced here.
