Does tuning increase fuel consumption?

One of the most common questions. The short answer: your right foot matters more than the software.

At a steady speed

On the motorway at a steady speed, the power the engine needs depends on the car’s weight, aerodynamics and speed; the tune does not change that need. So in relaxed driving, consumption stays largely close to factory figures.

When you use the throttle

More power means more fuel. If you use the extra power often, consumption rises; that is the natural result of any powerful car. The difference depends on how much of the power you use.

What really drives consumption?

Driving style, traffic, tyre pressure, servicing and fuel quality. A well-serviced, correctly calibrated engine runs efficiently. An engine with a mixture or ignition problem burns more regardless of the tune.

You can monitor your own car with the MOSTUNED Logger and compare before and after in your own conditions.
