8 things to know before tuning your BMW

1. Is your car actually compatible?

The badge does not tell the whole story. Turkey’s 320i, 420i, 520i and X3 sDrive20i come with the 1.6-litre B48B16 engine and the MG1CS003 engine control unit. The calibration is prepared for that combination. The right approach is to check the engine, control unit and current software version by VIN.

2. Is servicing up to date?

A tune asks more of the engine; plugs, oil and filters must be ready for it. A tired plug or a loose boost hose that goes unnoticed at factory power is the first thing to show up once power is raised. On a well-serviced car you get the full result of the tune.

3. Will the original software be backed up?

The original software should be backed up before any work, and returning to stock must be possible. That matters when selling the car or taking it to a dealer. We always take the backup, and you can return to stock at any time.

4. Will the transmission be set up too?

At the 300 HP level torque rises from 250 Nm to 400 Nm. The transmission software should be adjusted so the ZF 8-speed handles it correctly. That is why Stage 2 transmission software is included in our Ataşehir package.

5. Which fuel will you use?

Every calibration is prepared for a specific fuel quality. Tell the shop which fuel you use from the start; the level is chosen accordingly. On a direct-injection engine, fuel quality directly affects performance.

6. Warranty

Changing engine software can affect the manufacturer warranty, as with any tune. If the car is still under warranty, discuss it before the work.

7. What does the price include?

When comparing prices, compare what is included: is the unlock included, is transmission software included, is there support afterwards? Our Ataşehir package is €750 and includes the unlock, 300 HP engine software and Stage 2 transmission software together.

8. How will the result be verified?

A good job ends with the values being checked. We record a log on a test drive, and you can time 100–200 yourself with the free Logger in the MOSTUNED app.
